8 Fun Facts About King of Pops

King of Pops is the perfect treat for a sunny day. They’re fresh, delicious and Instagram-worthy with their variety of colors and fun packaging. To celebrate King of Pops’ return to Ballantyne, we’re sharing eight fun facts we learned from District Manager of Catering and Retail Development Jayke Watson.

1. King of Pops just turned 9 years old.
King of Pops started in Atlanta in April 2010 and brought its pops to Charlotte in 2013.

2. King of Pops uses simple ingredients to make bold flavors.
The ingredients are simple – water, salt, a little bit of organic cane sugar and what’s in the name of the pop.

3. These pops are a healthier alternative for a sweet treat.
While healthy means something different regarding different dietary limitations and preferences, King of Pop’s light and refreshing fruity pops all tend to be pretty low in calories, fat, allergens, etc. When it comes to decadent desserts, even the creamy options are good alternatives to others treats that are packed with high-fructose corn syrup and other heavy ingredients.

4. There are dozens of flavors, including several seasonal options.
Popular year-round flavors include Chocolate Sea Salt, Cookies N Cream, Raspberry Lime and Blueberry Lemonade, and some of the seasonal favorites are Blackberry Ginger Lemon, Grapefruit Mint, Oreo Cheesecake and Mango Chili Lime.

5. King of Pops has its own farm called King of Crops.
King of Pops sources its ingredients as locally and regionally as possible, adjusting its seasonal offerings often. They own a farm in Winston, Georgia, where they grow crops like basil, strawberries, muscadines and more for special King of Crops branded pops throughout the season. King of Pops is working to make the farm an event space in the future and built a partnership called King of Compost to support the community in an eco-friendly way.

6. You can enjoy a pop with your furry family members.
King of Pups is King of Pops’ dog-treat product made with all-natural ingredients and is much better than having to share your own pop. Pup pops are made with ingredients like peanut butter, yogurt, banana and other natural flavors.

7. King of Pops supports the community.
King of Pops’ purpose is to create Unexpected Moments of Happiness.

“We’re a business, and we’re proud of the work we do and what we make, but the work is only as good as the community and culture behind it,” said Jayke. “When folks think we’re local to Charlotte, Richmond or Nashville, we don’t feel the need to correct them – we are local because we’re not only shoulder deep in a pop cart on a sunny day, but because our team is committed to thoughtfulness, good vibes and returning the love we’ve been given.”

Share an Unexpected Moment of Happiness.

8. The employees like to have fun.
It’s no surprise with the company’s fun vibes that the employees know how to have a good time. According to Jayke, local team gatherings include activities like trivia, karaoke and board games and regional team gatherings usually involve singing show tunes in front of strangers or playing their own versions of heads up seven up and monkey in the middle.
