- Get to Know Fior Ballantyne – The New Café & Wine Bar in Ballantyne Village
If you’re looking for a cozy place to meet friends and enjoy a good drink, look no further. Fior Ballantyne is now open in Ballantyne Village serving up fresh foods, local café drinks, cocktails and more.
We sat down with the Fior team to learn more about the restaurant, including favorite menu items, fun facts and what’s on the horizon. Here’s what we discovered.
Fior strives to provide creative and innovative options with its breakfast, lunch, dinner and drink menus. General manager, Nathan Lonnen, described it as elevated comfort food. For breakfast, expect classics like French toast and breakfast sandwiches plus unique dishes like The Fior, a benedictine with smoked salmon, spinach and hollandaise sauce on an English muffin. Lunch is a selection of café-style sandwiches, soups and salads, and dinner is a variety of tapas and shareable small plates. The menu is dynamic, so look out for new items and different specials throughout the week.
Fior’s coffee and tea are sourced right here in the Charlotte area. The coffee is from Magnolia Coffee Co., and the tea is from Birch Fine Tea. Select from cappuccinos, lattes, cold brews, chai lattes and matcha lattes, plus hot and iced teas, all which can be flavored with one of the café’s housemade house syrups.
If you need help deciding what to order on your first visit, go with the fan favorites. Lattes are always a hit. Order it hot or iced, add your favorite flavor and enjoy the barista’s artistic touch to the hot lattes. If you’re looking for a cocktail, two of the top choices are the Apricot Old Fashioned and the Blackberry Mojito.
For dinner, an easy winner is the Not Your Mama’s Bite Size Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Choose from combinations like smoked gouda and pear or bacon, brie and apricot, and enjoy with a side of Chef’s Tomato Dipping Soup. Overall, fans love the breakfast menu, which pairs perfectly with your first (or second) cup of coffee for the day.
The Fior team has a strong passion for bringing culture to the Ballantyne area by providing live music every week. Hear local artists perform every Friday and Saturday evening with a balance of different genres or bring the music yourself by joining open mic night every Thursday.
Whether you’re looking to knock out some work, finish a good book or meet a friend, Fior provides an ideal atmosphere for personal and professional needs. There’s plenty of seating, and everyone is likely to find something on the menu that fits their appetite.
The café was created with the community in mind. The Fior staff have a family-like environment that they hope to extend to the people who come into the store every day. Managing partner, Sean Keyser, shared that the café was designed as a place for all people from all backgrounds to come together. The food, drink and décor all create a unique atmosphere where people are drawn to sit, stay and relax.
The café strives to be socially responsible with eco-friendly cups and biodegradable bags. More than that, Fior intentionally sources its coffee from Magnolia because the company knows its farmers and knows they are under fair trade practices. You’ll find a reminder of these sustainable practices with the plant wall next to the wine bar.
Fior Ballantyne officially celebrated its grand opening on August 9, but there are more exciting things to come. Look out for additions, including a vegan-friendly and vegetarian menu and a bring-one, take-one library wall where the community can swap books. The café also plans to extend its music offerings with Jazz Sundays and singer/songwriter nights.
We’ve given you plenty of good reasons to visit, and here’s one more – Fior Ballantyne is now on the BCP Card. Check out their deal.
