Smart Start Update on Ballantyne Community Gift

Smart Start of Mecklenburg County is working closely with its partners and funded programs to identify ways to meet new and ongoing needs of families and caregivers of young children. Reaching families and helping parents is a priority, and they created some COVID-19 related resources.

We also wanted to share an update on how our Ballantyne community gift is making an impact. Smart Start is moving forward with The Basics Mecklenburg communications campaign, with some adjustments to reflect the current social distancing measures. Smart Start is expanding its emphasis on generating awareness through increasing digital marketing and transit ads.

In addition, the organization held its first quarterly Basics Partnership Forum on March 13. Attendees included a mix of professionals from healthcare, early care and education, home visiting and family support, the Department of Social Services and other child and family-focused nonprofits. Participants engaged in activities and shared information about how they are implementing The Basics and supporting healthy development in ways that align with the five principles. They also learned about new Basics resources, including a prototype of the digital brochure. Overall, feedback on the forum was extremely positive!

Smart Smart hopes to return to usual outreach activities later in the year. We will continue to share updates as we receive more information.
