Northwood has developed a strong partnership with Duke over the years. Northwood has participated in such programs as KWH Crackdown, SEIO – Smart Energy in Office, Cadmus Engineering – all focused around reducing energy consumption in office buildings.
Northwood collaborates with Livable Meck to help develop a unified vision that presents a comprehensive blueprint designed to support the livability of Mecklenburg County now and in the future.
Northwood is a member of SustainCharlotte, which informs, engages, and empowers residents to address the numerous sustainability challenges that have accompanied Charlotte’s rapid population growth.
Northwood understands the importance of keeping streams clean throughout its community. By adopting a nearby stream, Northwood cleans up a stream segment twice a year.
The Northwood team cleans city streets three times a year, ensuring the routes are litter-free and properly maintained.
Northwood works with TreesCharlotte to plant more trees and improve the quality of life for all of Charlotte.
Northwood’s golf course has been designated as an official Certified Wildlife Habitat site by the National Wildlife Federation. Northwood continues to ensure Ballantyne is a wildlife-friendly community.
In addition to its commitment to responsible building, Northwood partners with USGBC to host LEED ceremonies and tours within its portfolio. Northwood enjoys participating in events such as these as they are critical to demonstrating the importance of sustainable building in Charlotte.
Northwood utilizes EPA Energy Star Portfolio Manager to benchmark building performance.
Northwood partners with BOMA to receive the latest information, training and best practices related to green and sustainable building operations and practices.
Northwood benefits from resources on emerging best practices including planning, financing, entitlements, design, construction and operational aspects of projects that foster more sustainable built environments.
Northwood works with its ECO Network to focus on establishing and supporting community engagement efforts that conserve water, reduce waste, reduce energy use and improve air quality in Charlotte.
Northwood works with this program to ensure it is upholding voluntary pollution reduction strategies and shares way businesses and individuals can make small changes to help improve air quality, which improves the health of the greater community.
